The Armillary Of Thought
The Armillary Of Thought
Meet The Armillary Of Thought
A sculptural object of thought—built to be seen, held, and used.
“The world turns. So should your thinking.”
Sphere → symbolises orbit, continuity, and the architecture of thought.
Design Philosophy
Inspired by the ancient tool once used to study the skies, this is an armillary made to study the self. Crafted entirely from solid brass and built around a rotatable, multi-axis 30-minute hourglass, the Armillary of Thought is both an instrument and an invitation. Use it to create a timed space for journaling, reflection, or uninterrupted philosophical thinking. Or let it sit silently—a artistic sculpture of philosophy on your desk.
A Piece Of Art
The Armillary of Thought is more than a timekeeper—it’s a moving sculpture. Its multi-axis structure mirrors the complexity of thought itself: layered, orbital, evolving. Made entirely of brass, it’s a pleasure to hold, turn, and contemplate. Each movement invites the hand, while the form draws the eye—deliberate, weighty, and full of quiet tension. This isn’t just a symbol. It’s a presence—one that earns its place in any thinking space.
Designed For Introspection
The Armillary features a handmade brass hourglass calibrated for exactly 30 minutes. Turn it once to begin a session—of writing, silence, reading, or nothing at all. It’s not about productivity. It’s about presence.
Made To Be An Heirloom
Hand-assembled from pure brass, The Armillary of Thought carries real weight. Polished to age beautifully over time, it’s both a tool and an object of presence. Let it anchor your workspace—not as a distraction, but as a reminder.

What is the Empirical Armillary? + -
It’s a reinterpretation of the ancient armillary sphere—a brass, rotating hourglass designed to mark thirty minutes of stillness, reflection, or focused work. It’s a physical reminder to reclaim time and give it shape.
What is it made of? + -
The Armillary is made from solid brass, with a hand-assembled multi-axis design. The hourglass contains fine white sand and counts approximately 30 minutes. Each component is finished raw to retain its natural material character.
Is it functional or decorative? + -
It is fully functional—but not utilitarian. It’s a ritual object, not a productivity timer. It’s meant to anchor your thinking, mark time intentionally, and serve as a visual centrepiece for focus and stillness.
Is it fragile? + -
The brass structure is solid and durable, but the hourglass component should be handled with care. Rotate it gently. This is an object to be used thoughtfully, not aggressively.
How is it built? + -
Each Armillary is assembled by an armillary maker. The brass rings are mounted on multiple axes, allowing full 360° rotation. We worked closely with the team to create the 30 minute timers to make it as precise as possible. The design takes inspiration from celestial instruments, but repurposes them inward—to map time for the self.
How should I use it? + -
Use it before journaling, writing, thinking, or working. Flip it, breathe, begin. Let it mark your session—then stop when the sand runs out. It's not about doing more. It's about being more present with what you choose to do.
