“The more connected we became, the less we belonged."

We live in a world built for speed. We move fast, consume endlessly, and skim the surface of everything, yet many of us feel more restless, unmoored, and disconnected than ever. The reason isn’t that we lack information. It’s that we’ve abandoned the one thing that makes sense of it: philosophy. Not as abstract theory, but as a way to live with clarity, lead with depth, and return to what actually matters.

That conviction is what I’ve built my life around. Philosophy isn’t meant to sit in books no one reads. It has to be lived, built, and shared, which is why I’ve spent the last decade making it something people can actually use, through my work and my book DISCONNECTED. My aim is simple: to bring philosophy out of the lecture hall and into modern life.

DEMOCRATISING KNOWLEDGE FOR THE WORLD

For over a decade, I've been on a mission to make the collective knowledge of Asia and the wider region accessible to everyone. I founded Empirics, an open-access knowledge platform and independent publishing house, on a single principle: that insight should never sit behind a paywall. To date, we've published over a million works across the social sciences, freely, and open to all.

“Empirics exists to make knowledge free and accessible to everyone. At the same time, we're building a new model for publishing, one defined not by commercial interest, but by the value of the ideas. ”
“Empirics has become a hub for knowledge exchange across Asia and beyond. It has sourced and published over a million articles from more than 100,000 contributors, and is read in over 120 countries.”
“We imagine a world where knowledge is free, relevant, and genuinely engaging for every generation, a place for meaningful exchange, where ideas bring real enrichment, fulfilment, and growth to everyone.”
“We're building the largest open repository of knowledge of its kind, and we use technology to bring it to the world in new and engaging ways. Knowledge, we believe, should be a right, not a commodity.”
